Great breakfast, really recommend the homemade corn beef hash. Rumor is the chef has some mad skills, I second that. Chatted with Joni and the family, wonderful people. Home away from home, thx Joni. See you next time through town.

We were very excited to go to Joni's Diner. Imagine, a real chrome East Coast Diner, fully restored, in Lake Geneva, WI. And there it was, right next to our hotel. So, after checking out we walked to the Diner for a late breakfast. Service was great. While limited, their menu looked good. We ordered coffee (not great but not bad). The server said everything on the menu was good so I opted for their corned beef hash and eggs. The menu suggested that it was their own special recipe. I've never seen hash quite like this. When you think of corned beef hash, you tend to think of mushy corned beef, onions and potatoes. If you're lucky, there may be some crisp spots. But this was not like that at all. They corn their own beef and shred it. They mix in diced cabbage, onion, potato and green pepper. Then it is lightly heated on a flattop. So, no mush. One thing I would have liked is if they cooked it a little more. I would classify the veggies as almost raw. Also, since they were diced together, the favors just didn't mesh. Non-the-less, it was very unique. And, the eggs were cooked to perfection. So, I've had better breakfasts before, but the ambiance of the old diner really made up for it. Next time we're in Lake Geneva, I want to try Joni's for lunch.

I have been meaning to check this place out for some time. I'm glad they accept credit cards now. One thing I can't understand is how it has 4 plus star rating. A lot of the 5 star ratings don't say much about the food in detail so I'll be more to the point. The decor is nice like a 50's style diner. They boast that most of the food is handmade which is a nice touch. The wait staff is friendly and service was good. I ordered the corned beef hash that the waiter said I would love and it was very freshly made but lacked in overall flavor. There were too many potatoes not enough Swiss cheese. The cabbage and green peppers were a great addition but there could have been more corned beef as well. The eggs were perfectly done easy over, but I would not order this dish again. I might try the sandwich next time to give them a second chance since I love a good Reuben. My husband ordered the sausage and biscuits and they were good but as described by another review not flaky at all and I thought the gravy was to thick and also bland. I'm a fan of Daddy Maxwell's about 15 minutes away and definitely worth the drive but I was able to walk here so that was nice.

A great place to stop for a down home breakfast with friendly service and nice prices. As mentioned in other reviews- payment form is cash only. Give them a try!

Amazing hand-spun milkshakes and reasonable prices make this diner a MUST when in Lake Geneva. Oh and THEY DO TAKE CREDIT/DEBIT CARDS!

I love to get 'the thing' that is awesome. My wife got the banana bread waffles and I got the corned beef hash. I never thought I'd describe corned beef hash as awesome, but every bite was... Five stars, will absolutely visit again and bring friends!!

I was on my way to Illinois and I stopped here for breakfast because it has 4 stars and looked good. It's an old school diner with all the stainless steel everywhere and great charm by the way because I like the old school places. It's got booths by the windows and the lunch counter with stools next to them. At 6:30 am the place had two tables in service so I had no problem getting seated. My server was doing a fine job because the place was empty that early. The menu has your typical diner fare for breakfast and lunch but the biscuit and gravy was what I would have today. I ordered the biscuit and gravy with two eggs over easy, see my pictures. The dish looked good with meaty gravy over two halved biscuits and perfect eggs. As I ate the meal which was good but I felt it was on the bland side. The gravy was loose and not the creamy style. The biscuits were hearty and dense, not the light and flakey kind. The gravy needed to be seasoned because it was bland. The sausage was plentiful but very mild to bland. The eggs were perfect. If the sausage was zestier with better flavor this had the potential to be 4 stars. I understand cooking for the masses and that the patrons were older but the food doesn't have to be mild and bland.

Stopped in for breakfast Thanksgiving morning, open from 6am-12pm. Oh so glad we did. Great, friendly, happy, efficient service, especially on a holiday. The food was spectacular, & the coffee was even good. Enjoyed the eggs Benedict florentine & the sausage gravy & both were awesome. I highly recommend stopping here instead of the McDonald's across the street. Better service & better food & about the same price. Oh & they cooked the eggs to perfection!

While seeking out local restaurants in the Lake Geneva area, and passing by on a street that also has a Burger King and a McDonalds, this place has my vote. There are NO reservations, and it is first come first serve basis. It doesn't entirely matter how many people are in your party. We had a group of 2 and 3 in front of us. On a Sunday morning at around 9:30, our wait was probably 5-10 minutes. Small menu: front side is breakfast and backside of it is lunch. A family-run diner whose menu items are family recipes (ex. Biscuits and gravy are the great-grandmothers recipe), the dishes are pretty much home cooking (speaking from the breakfast menu only... Did not try lunch items). Breakfast items ordered were big portions and weren't greasy (biscuits and gravy, and 2-egg breakfast). That was a plus. Attentiveness of servers was okay. They were busy taking care of other tables too. Take the opportunity to ask for what you need when they do pop by the table. Never know when they come back again. They were super nice and friendly though! Contrary to some reviews, they DO take credit card. Check this place out if you want a change of pace from the chain restaurants.

Delicious diner fare a block off lakeside. Menu says that Joni's Airstream-like structure was carefully moved (and reconstructed) from Pennsylvania to Lake Geneva and has kept its original quality in service, food, and architecture. Delicious burgers and brunch food. Really friendly, accommodating staff.

My wife and I decided to stop for a nice little breakfast. I got the breakfast burrito and she got the Big A omelette. The service was prompt and the food was delicious! Hot and fresh! It's not everyday that you come across a diner type restaurant especially one where the menu is short and to the point with a nice selection of food. Love it! I would highly recommend this place if you are looking for a cool little place with all the quaintness of a 50's diner with excellent food and service! Great job!

Loved this place! It was exactly what I was hoping it would be. Great service and delicious food. Had the banana bread French toast- so amazing!! Definitely coming back very soon.

Kick ass breakfast place. I had two breakfasts. Fruit and yogurt parfait. Delicious with fresh fruit and honey granola. Also had basic two egg toast and hash brown breakfast. Very good service Very clean. Very tasty

I love Diners so I had breakfast there . Gross ! Burned ,greasy, and hard, over easy eggs. Supposed to be American style cooking but Potato pancakes came with a sour chunky apple mixture they called Chitney (an English dish) piled on top. This totally ruined the pancakes. The breakfast sausages tasted like nothing I have ever eaten before, and were under cooked . When I complained about everything their reply was simply ----OH. Never,Never,Never again

One of my favorite places for breakfast and lunch, the food is excellent and always tastes fresh. The staff is great and the owner is very kind. It's an excellent local gem of a restaurant that stays true to good food, good people, and good prices.

Hidden gem of Lake Geneva! It opened 16 months ago. A really cool authentic 50's diner that was shipped from Pennsylvania. Great service and excellent food! Thank you Julia!

Definitely a go to place. Went for breakfast and was seated right away. I did get here about 6:45am on a Saturday. People sleeping in. Almost 8:30 now and still not crowded. Staff delightful. Warm and welcoming. Cute place. The booths have tables that look like ones you had growing up. Music was Big Band music with some 5o's songs. Short but nice menu. Eggs, omelettes, Benedict's, pancakes, french toast and biscuit and gravy. I got 2 eggs over easy, crisp bacon and resident toast. It was yummy! They are good on coffee refills. Anymore I would float out! Asked to see lunch menu. I would return for lunch. Stop In. Don't just drive by!

Just had to check this place out when we were staying in lake Geneva based on the incredible reviews. They are definitely true. I just love breakfast food and every employee was very friendly and smiling. Very reasonably priced and such great decor. Will definitely make it back next time.

Very nice place with good food and friendly staff. Also very clean and pleasant looking unlike most diners like this. And don't worry about its old -time appearance like I did; it is truly very nice.

Based on the reviews, my husband and I were expecting a great breakfast.. We were terribly disappointed, the biscuits and gravy, which appeared homemade, was horrible! The biscuits were so hard, I could not cut into them and certainly could not eat them. My husband "over easy" eggs were hard in the middle and the coffee terrible. Try Mannys in Twin Lakes if you really want a great homemade breakfast!

Best biscuits and gravy I've ever had. Good food and great service in an authentic-looking diner. Wonderful find!

Went in with a friend towards the end of December. We both ordered breakfast items. I had pancakes, eggs, and bacon. The food came out fast and hot. Everything was well cooked and pretty tasty. Our waiter was ok. He wasn't really into having a conversation with us. That's fine though. He did make us an apple pie shake which was great! I like the old diner feel to the restaurant. I was eyeing the lunch menu so I'll have to go back to give it a try.

Great breakfast place! The eggs Benedict with hash browns are a favorite. There are some great omelets for those needing to start the day with some good eats.

Great little place! Went for breakfast last Saturday. Staff was incredibly nice and friendly. Food came out decently fast and was good. Bacon was nice, thick slabs and eggs were cooked perfectly. Definitely a new favorite!

We went for a late lunch and were delighted by this classic roadside diner. The charbroiled cheeseburger and fries were wonderfully tasty. The beet salad had nice greens to go with the beets. And the service was friendly, professional and prompt. The owner was very engaging. I am looking forward to trying breakfast there on our next visit to Lake Geneva! By the way, it is a block or so closer to Hwy 50 than Yelp shows on their map.

This was so cool.... an authentic 50's diner, just like in "Good Times"! Our server Dustin was very warm and inviting, and gave us good info on the choices so we weren't thrown off. The prices were moderate, and the pancakes were good and filling! The hash browns with green onions were my favorite... great spot to visit!

  • Richard R.

Nothing fancy but the food was fresh, the service was attentive, the premises were very clean and the food was good. There was also free wifi. This about as well run of a diner that someone could expect. If your looking for a luxurious breakfast with mimosas and smoked salmon with capers look elsewhere, but if your looking for a good simple breakfast or lunch in a pleasant and clean restaurant this is a good place for it.

  • Tom C.

Looks great. Did a recon to see if we would continue to patronize the place. They failed. Had the saltiest ever cheese curds. Left half of the $7.50 unappetizer. The chocolate milk shake was chocolate milk. Mentioned the tastes to the waitress and got a "I'll let them know". Mentioned it to the cashier got a smirk. They got a never come back cuistomer who will let others know.

We drove by Joni's on the way back to our hotel and noticed the diner seemed busy. So, we decided to turn around and check it out. There was only one Yelp review and no pics. So, I Googled it...SN: Joni's is one of three O'Neal one style diners in the world. We figured we would check it out just for the nostalgia factor. (Read story here: bestoflakegeneva.com/ent… ) When we sat down, I read some more of the article to my wife, then we were given menus. Since my wife had just had a chipped tooth addressed--which cut breakfast short she was ready to eat. She started with the basic house salad with a cranberry vinaigrette and I had the chicken soup--which seemed apropos for a diner...and it did not disappoint. She smashed the side salad--liking the dressing--and I thoroughly enjoyed the soup--with chunks of carrots and celery and pulled chicken. We proceeded to order our lunch, she did pulled pork; me, turkey reuben. However, as I continued to read the article it touted the Meatloaf sandwich. So, I stopped the waitress to change her order to the meatloaf... When our plates came we went "all in". The only downside was that my wife wanted more meatloaf. However, overall, the meal and experience were good--and we will have this in rotation for the next visit to LG.

Yes, Nice Place to go to for Bkfst or Lunch.. Kinda Cold appearing with all that Metal all over the place though.. Just stopped in again this Dec. and Was disappointed not alot more XMASS DECORATIONS ! Like the Whole Diner ought to be lined with Xmass Lights and a Santa and Reindeers on Top with a Few Spot Lihts ! and how about the Wait Staff Dressed up as Elve's? And a Manger out on the Front Lawn? Can even add a MENORA on Top of the Roof too for our Jewish Friends in teh Community and visitors.. Grand Geneva Really Puts on a Nice Light Show! and a Holiday Seniors Discount for the Mo of December would have been Nice..! But, they're new yet and in a few More yrs they will get even better for the Community and Town and keep up the pressure to the neighborhing Fast Food Places.. I usualy Come to Lake Geneva every week and will stop in again, next time ..! Hope they have some Xmass Cookies! and more Handciapped Parking spaces Directly In the Front - 1st 3 spaces , part of the lot would be better.. ;-)

Loved the whole diner atmosphere and it was really interesting to get the history from Joni herself. The place is spotless and all four of us really enjoyed our breakfast. You get generous portions of delicious food for a very reasonable price. We will definitely be back.

The positive reviews displayed on here must be posted by the owner and the employees. We had a terrible dining experience here. The cheeseburger was over charred and tasted burnt. The bacon on the grilled cheese sandwich was served nearly raw. Service was slow and they were not even busy. When the cashier asked us how we liked everything, we told her about the problems with the food only to get 10% off of our bill which was a $1.75. Take my advice, go somewhere else!!

Excellent service and food. We had biscuits and gravy and an omelet with hashbrowns. Food arrived quickly and hot. Everything was awesome. The place was spotless including the washrooms. The service was great, super friendly. We will go back.

I asked Siri what diners are in Lake Geneva and one of them that she pulled up was Joni's, boy am I glad she did!! My husband 3 year old son and I went there for brunch and the food, service, and historical atmosphere were charming. We ordered both breakfast and lunch foods and everything was delicious. This is one place you really don't want to miss out on.

Ok we stop by here just by the cool look of the place. However after getting inside I knew we were in for a great breakfast and o-man I was right. I had the breakfast burrito and she had the banana bread French toast and both were some of the best breakfasts out that we have ever had. The place is spotless and the staff was great. This is a must stop and we will be back!!

My first visit was Sunday morning and it was so good we went again Monday morning! Breakfast was great. The serving size of scrambled eggs was huge, the pancakes were awesome and the bacon....well I can't think of a word for it....some of the best (on menu as local) bacon I've had. Ordered a biscuit on the side of the combo breakfast to give that a try...ended up ordering a few to bring home. The diner itself is just a "cool throwback" kind of place, unique among the chains nearby. It was clean and the service is friendly. Already the place has some local regulars which is always a good sign. I can't wait to go back and try some of the lunch offerings.

Had a tasty lunch here. My sis and I had the basil pesto grilled cheese and loved it. I had a cup of tomato basil soup which was ok but had more of a pasta sauce texture which just didn't do it for me. Hubby had the belt sandwhich and thought it was good. I want to back to try breakfast and a few other items....

Fantastic hidden treasure! We discovered it on the way through to Illinois. Wanted a quick lunch and Culver's was busy. The diner looked packed too but decided to take a chance. So happy we did. Table for four was open and we sat down and order taken right away. Staff was friendly, place was clean and the menu choices were wonderful. Reuben sandwich with fresh cut fries - fair price and excellent. Husband went for a breakfast choice- breakfast burrito. It was HUGE and also great tasting. Kids had burger and another a choice off the kids menu. Homemade shakes were amazing!!! This is a great place that pays attention to details. Food came out fast and hot. Will defiantly make this a stop on our way back into Wisconsin.

Finally, in this desert of wholesome dining, we found Joni's Diner. We had a big breakfast after some early yard work on a Sunday. Nothing was greasy: the cage-free eggs were tasty and light, the hash browns were also light, and the pancakes were fluffy. The sausage and bacon are locally-grown as were the dairy products. Despite being busy, our food came within 12 minutes. Clearly the best breakfast in town.

Wow! What a great place!! This was our first visit and will be my first choice for lunch in Lake Geneva from now on! Four of us just ate lunch at Joni's Diner and had a fantastic experience! We ordered soup and sandwiches and dessert and every meal we had was a big hit! Everything is homemade and beautifully presented. The chicken noodle was just like my mom's and terrific, and the soup special of cabbage and potato was just as wonderful. Friends had the blue cheese salad and the burger; she loved the salad (and I could see the greens were totally fresh), his burger was done just the way he ordered it. My husband had the Reuben sandwich with homemade fries - yum - and I had the turkey sandwich - REAL roasted turkey not deli stuff - with grilled pears and spinach on marbled rye and it was awesome! We all split a delicious pumpkin pie dessert that had a graham cracker crust - all desserts are homemade right there as well. The ambience is fun and festive, being an authentic diner; while it's old, it is so clean you'd imagine it was new. Shannon was our welcoming and attentive server and checked on us often. Real homemade food is hard to get these days in a restaurant. Joni's Diner IS as good as it gets!

We have been to very few restaurants where we couldn't order because EVERYTHING looked delicious. Joni's was one of those places! The food/milkshakes were awesome and great service by the entire staff. Fun story behind the diner as well!

Very good and clean diner. It's a throwback to the 50s and the breakfast is very good. I had a bacon cheese omelet and hash browns. Very filling and tasty.

  • Gregory B.

The architecture of this classic chrome and stainless steel gem is flawless. It is a trip back in time. I have never stepped into a better preserved prefab diner. The menu is typical Wisconsin, which is to say, mostly beef and cheese, but they do it well. Nice challah bread for the sandwiches and french toast. Decent coffee. The apple pie looked much better than it tasted (bready crust). We'll return.

  • Janet G.

Absolutely the best food, hospitality and nuance that we could've lucked into finding. We spent 3 days here and after trying this quaint little diner, we didn't even want to have breakfast anywhere else. All of the staff fell over themselves to help us out, and were all so friendly. This place is amazing and we highly recommend this diner and will keep coming back whenever we're in town. The prices were very reasonable too. Do yourself a favor and check it out!!! We paid with a debit/credit card, so it isn't cash only payment.
